Better minelab 705 or safari. Metal detector "Minelab Safari": owner reviews, specifications and features

If you yourself are a scientist or just an inquisitive person, and you often watch or read the latest news in the field of science or technology. It is for you that we have created such a section, which covers the latest world news in the field of new scientific discoveries, achievements, as well as in the field of technology. Only the latest events and only trusted sources.

In our progressive time, science is moving at a fast pace, so it is not always possible to keep up with them. Some old dogmas are crumbling, some new ones are being put forward. Mankind does not stand still and should not stand still, but the engine of mankind is scientists, scientists. And at any moment a discovery can occur that can not only amaze the minds of the entire population of the globe, but also radically change our lives.

A special role in science is allocated to medicine, since a person, unfortunately, is not immortal, fragile and very vulnerable to all kinds of diseases. Many people know that in the Middle Ages people lived on average 30 years, and now 60-80 years. That is, at least doubled life expectancy. This was influenced, of course, by a combination of factors, but it was medicine that played a big role. And, for sure, 60-80 years for a person is not the limit of average life. It is possible that someday people will cross the mark of 100 years. Scientists from all over the world are fighting for it.

In the field of other sciences, developments are constantly underway. Every year, scientists from all over the world make small discoveries, slowly moving humanity forward and improving our lives. Places untouched by man are being explored, first of all, of course, on our home planet. However, work is constantly taking place in space.

Among technology, robotics is especially rushing forward. An ideal intelligent robot is being created. Once upon a time, robots were an element of fantasy and nothing more. But already at the moment, some corporations have real robots on their staff, which perform various functions and help optimize labor, save resources and perform dangerous activities for a person.

I would also like to pay special attention to electronic computers, which even 50 years ago occupied a huge amount of space, were slow and required a whole team of employees for their care. And now such a machine, in almost every home, is already called more simply and briefly - a computer. Now they are not only compact, but also many times faster than their predecessors, and anyone can figure it out. With the advent of the computer, mankind has opened a new era, which many call "technological" or "information".

Remembering the computer, do not forget about the creation of the Internet. It also gave a huge result for humanity. This is an inexhaustible source of information, which is now available to almost everyone. It connects people from different continents and transmits information with lightning speed, it was impossible to even dream of such a thing 100 years ago.

In this section, you will certainly find something interesting, exciting and informative for yourself. Perhaps even someday you will be one of the first to know about a discovery that will not only change the world, but will turn your mind upside down.

In a comment on Minelab Safari (which is in the box with the new metal detector), Aleksey pushed it like this - A stupid model for the money. Better Explorer SE or E-Trac... I don't think so. And my impression is based on its predecessor, the Minelab Quattro MP. But judging by the number of Safaris that I see around (for this season already one, this one), this detector is not very to the liking of the search engines.

Comparison, photo report of Minelab Safari and Garrett AT PRO metal detectors in the field. Safari was recently bought by our fellow detective, the second device is mine. What's good and what's not. I would buy such a metal detector instead of my Gareth AT PRO.

Compare

Based on the practice of searching, both metal detectors are in the same category - ground metal detectors, a collapsible S-shaped bar, the top location of the control unit.

But Garrett AT PRO has a pure candy bar that contains everything: screen, control, power supply (4 AA batteries), headphone jack. In Minelab Safari, the power supply (8 AA batteries or accumulators) and headphone jack are located separately from the unit, at the top of the boom.

I think that the armrest in the Garrett AT PRO metal detector is not the best (for example, now in autumn, it is uncomfortable in a thick jacket). But even with Minelab Safari, after an hour of searching with it, the armrest did not like, uncomfortable.

Most of all I liked the armrest in, it is soft and “fits” the arm. It holds super without any straps (it securely holds the hand and nothing needs to be unfastened when putting the detector aside).

Control

It so happened that I started with Garrett metal detectors, and now I have the main one from the same manufacturer. And this “kinship” has formed some habits. For example, to have access to all control buttons with the same hand in which I have a metal detector.

Minelab Safari is a little more convenient than the same ones (although the guides say that this is a matter of habit). And yet, there was some “inconvenience”… In almost all metal detectors, the central button is the Pinpoint mode. In Safari, this is the menu entry. And the pinpoint is on the side)) At first I was confused.

Finger reaching out to turn off the power. As the Young Seeker commented (comparison) - no need to constantly turn it off ... I'll get tired faster than the power in Terra runs out. This is true, but when the device is turned off for the time of digging a hole and crossing through thickets, it still saves batteries.

And with such a habit, my kit is enough for more than one exit.

Barbell

Would you buy?

Would I buy a Minelab Safari metal detector? Given what I know about mine and the Minelab X-Terra 705 (that would be the third option in this selection).

I have two big complaints… The pinpoint button on the left is overpriced (in my opinion), the VDI output is much poorer than that of the Minelab Explorer SE PRO (which Safari belongs to).

On the plus side, it’s a handy design (and reliable), a great coil, and compared to the Explorer SE, it’s pretty easy to figure it out. Maybe also multi-frequency, but in the field Safari did not receive a special advantage. At least the number of finds was commensurate with the nearby X-Terra 705 and AT PRO.

At this price, I would quickly write off Safari and then hesitate only between .

P.S. Pay attention ➨ ➨ ➨ Bomb theme - . Take a look, you won't regret it.

The popular Australian X Terra 705 metal detector, known in Russia as the "Terka", belongs to the class of professional equipment for searching for almost any metal object. Often, with its help, they look for coins and treasures, but the device is able to detect metal ores and individual nuggets. At the same time, the model operates at three different frequencies and quite effectively separates the search objects from the ground, regardless of their size and saturation of the soil with metal particles.

Operating principle

The principle of operation of the Minelab X Terra 705 device is based on the selective division of all possible search options into 28 segments, each of which can be included in its own program. The metal detector supports working with 6 such sets at the same time. If there is an object under the detector coil that the device is currently tuned to, the corresponding segment will be highlighted on the display and an audible signal will be emitted at the same time.

After a response to a target, information about the type of find and the distance to the object appears on the Terra 705 screen. And the rest of the time here you can find out about the settings of the equipment and the charge of its batteries. It should be noted that the battery capacity of the device is enough for 15-20 hours of operation, or for 2-3 search "shifts".

Complete set of the metal detector

The X Terra 705 comes with the following parts:

  • device control unit;
  • three elements of a composite rod;
  • universal dual-band coil DD 10.5 inches with an operating frequency of 7.5 kHz (sometimes replaced by a single-band nine-inch modification);
  • appropriate coil protection for X Terra 705 (9"" or 10.5"");
  • collapsible armrest, consisting of 2 parts (upper and lower);
  • bolts and washers with which the control unit, coil and armrest are attached;
  • Velcro fasteners;
  • instructions for the device and warranty card.

DD Coil Capabilities

The DoubleD 10.5" (26 cm) coil, which comes standard with the X Terra 705 metal detector, is designed to work effectively on soils with a high degree of mineralization. Thanks to the special DoubleD technology (two frequency bands) and the optimal size of this part, the area can be surveyed much faster than with other equipment.

The high sensitivity of the coil allows it to find even the smallest objects. At the same time, it is completely sealed and can even be submerged under water - although the manufacturer does not recommend doing this often and for a long time. And the light weight (only 0.38 kg) practically does not make the device heavier, ensuring work with it for several hours in a row.

Advantages of the device

Among the advantages that distinguish the X Terra 705 from other models, it is worth noting the main ones:

  • The presence of a ground tracking mode that complements the already existing three settings (manual, automatic and "beach").
  • The added function of determining the approximate dimensions of the found object.
  • Screen backlight that allows you to work with the device in any conditions - both in the dark and in the bright sun.
  • Adjusting the volume of the signal is a function that is especially important when working without headphones.
  • Multitonality, which allows using either 4 tones for searching (for the main types of objects), or all 28 at once (according to the number of segments).
  • Ability to use multiple search methods. For a nine-inch coil, the cross method is most convenient. For the universal DoubleD model, the amount of overlapping stroke is minimal, and it has to be moved much less often.

  • the presence of a geological exploration mode, for which a special coil with a frequency of 18.75 kHz will have to be connected to the device.

Features of work

An important factor affecting the efficiency of detecting metal objects is the interference present in the composition of the soil - metal debris, minerals, clay soils, and even bricks. An expensive and high-quality metal detector, such as the X Terra 705, can be adjusted manually or automatically to isolate such interference and increase the likelihood of finding a truly valuable object.

It is recommended to enable automatic device setup for inexperienced users who have just started working with this model. Professionals can avoid missing the target by using their experience. Such manual balancing sometimes allows you to get a more effective result, although it takes a lot of time.

When working with the device, it is advisable to follow the manufacturer's recommendations:

  • Use the Minelab X Terra 705 metal detector while wearing headphones, which allows you to better focus on the tone. If this search method is not possible for some reason, you should adjust the signal volume to a value convenient for the user.

  • In order to isolate yourself from third-party electromagnetic interference (other metal detectors or high-voltage wires), you should turn on the Noise Cancel function, which is available for both manual and automatic modes.
  • The threshold tone setting for the response of the equipment (it ranges from -5 to +25) should be set at the limit of human hearing. Do not make the signal too loud because of false responses. And choosing quiet settings can lead to skipping detected small objects. For search on the beach, the parameter is set to negative.

Comparison with analogue metal detectors

When comparing Terra 705 with devices similar in functionality and efficiency, the following features of this device can be noted:

  • Ease, thanks to which it is carried with one hand for a long time. The metal detector is over 100g lighter than the Garrett AT PRO and Tesoro Tejon and 200g lighter than the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger.
  • DoubleD technology allows you to perform fewer strokes during the search, as a result of which energy costs per unit of time are reduced, and the metal detector can travel a greater distance.
  • Terra 705 is assembled faster than analogues and has a removable control unit, which increases the convenience of transporting the device.
  • Unlike most other models, the screen is not overloaded with unnecessary data. All information can be viewed with a few extra taps. This characteristic can be called both a plus and a minus - depending on the requirements of the user.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the Tesoro Tejon metal detector allows you to get no less effective results. However, the model requires a lot of experience in order to adapt to the fact that it has only one tone and no display. After all, instead of a screen, Tesoro has several toggle switches that are typical for devices of previous generations. However, many treasure hunters with extensive experience are attracted by this particular feature that is familiar to them.

At the same time, learning to work with the Garrett AT PRO is the easiest compared to other devices in the review. And the Bounty Hunter and Minelab models are approximately in the middle in terms of user adaptability.

At the same time, the user reviews left on the X Terra 705 report a small minus that is absent from a number of similar devices. When finding an object, many treasure hunters try to turn off the device in order to save battery power. But if the Garrett, Tesoro and Bounty Hunter models can be easily turned off in such a situation, the X Terra will have to rest on the ground or use a second hand (which usually carries other equipment) to do this.

Today we will consider two multi-frequency metal detectors from the same manufacturer - Minelab. These models are produced by an Australian company that has earned the trust of customers for unsurpassed quality and excellent performance. In the range of detectors, everyone can find their device. So, what is the difference between Minelab Safari and X-terra 705, what are the similarities - let's try to figure it out.

Design

Minelab Safari and X-terra 705 share the same three-pole design. The differences begin in the construction of the cord - in the 705 Terra it is wrapped around the lower stem, while in the Safari it is securely hidden inside the stem. The battery compartment of the 705 grater is located to the left of the control unit, powered by 4 AA batteries (fingers); the safari has a battery compartment under the elbow, 8 AA batteries that fit into one slot. Minelab X-terra 705 has a removable control unit and is equipped with a convenient backlight. Both devices are equipped with DD coils, only the grater has a waterproof 10.5” coil at 7.5 kHz, and the safari has an FBS 11” butterfly coil.

Each of these devices has its own advantages. So, Minelab x-terra 705 has advanced ground settings + ground tracking function. Safari has a setting for the degree of littering of the territory - if you select the high garbage mode "high", then the metal detector better separates targets that are next to each other. The choice is yours!

And nothing can convince me, comrade diggers-treasure hunters. Of course, many can object - they say, if you haven’t tried anything else, how can you say that. However, I will disappoint you here, perhaps, because I managed to dig with at least four metal detectors and I can already judge objectively.

So, how much does a 705 grater cost right now? In the region of 28,000 rubles, if you take a new and second-hand one, you can grab it for a democratic 22,000 rubles, and it will be under warranty. It’s enough just to browse the treasure-hunting forums, now that treasure-hunting has become a conditionally permitted hobby, many people sell their “guns”, and we, those who are not going to give up our positions, can seize the moment and buy an excellent metal detector for less money, saving sometimes can reach 5-6 thousand rubles. Here's a new reel for you))

In general, I have lost my thoughts, let me tell you what I think about this metal detector and how I liked it compared to other MDs.

Start…

I dug for the most part with Minelabs - graters 34, 305, 505, safari, also drove E-truck for a very short time. He himself began to become a digger with the grater 34, which was familiar back in 2007, now it has already been discontinued and replaced by 305 - the device has already been improved, but also at the level of the initial MD. However, there are already two frequencies, and this is a plus for those who like to play with coils with different frequencies.

Further, while I was walking with a grater 34, my friends managed, due to their findings, to rise to the purchase of a second MD (at first they had one for two), and with the accumulated money they bought a grater 305. We did not particularly notice the difference between 34 and 305, Or rather, they didn't notice at all. For all the options, thanks to which the 305 model was cooler, we did not use. And this is a fact))

I still continued to drive with 34 graters, and my friends had already dug up coins for the season, there were a couple of impressive finds (sales price tag of 4-5 thousand rubles - for us then they were super-finds). So during the season they got up and decided to sell the old 34-grater, add and buy already 505 Minelab. I tell them - what for, save a little more and buy 705 terra. But they were already burning with the purchase, the new season was on the way, and they discarded all my lamentations and took the five hundred and fifth model.

Took 505

Compared to 34 and 305, Minelab 505 was just a breakthrough - there were many more finds, and, it seems to me, the regular DD coil also played a significant role. Cheaper graters were equipped with mono-coils and they really lose to powerful DD-shki. For the entire third season, they wiped my nose on the finds, I managed to “dig” only the one who walked with 305. They used coins, crosses and other shmurdyak from their finds, but the number of their finds upset me and plunged me into despondency, because I felt that I miss a lot of coins with my old 34th. But I also collected dug out coins, cleaned them and roughly figured out how much I could sell for. I saved up immediately for Terra 705 - it was my dream. The comrades bombed seriously, sometimes they raised up to 15 royal coins for leaving. With a simple metal detector, such results could only be achieved by arriving at an unexplored fair)) As you understand, such places can no longer be found, or rather, you can find them, but you need a serious off-road vehicle and purchased old maps.

Safari 28-chastotnik

In the meantime, the cop absorbed us so much that our friends began to travel more and more often and got another friend hooked on our hobby, who, without further ado, immediately bought a second-hand Minelab Safari on occasion. In terms of money, something came out at the level of the new 705, I found it so successfully on the treasure hunt forum. And I was lucky with the purchase - the device is like new and under warranty. Everyone would have such lots))

At first, we thought that right now he would find all our coins, but the person was a beginner and got used to such a complex device for a long time, after all, “Safari” (a cropped version of the exp) is a 28-frequency converter and it will be difficult to understand it right away. Another thing is when you step by step move from device to device, increasing its level and class. So the guys with 505 Minelab very often "made" the finds of the digger from Safari. But this is only at first, as soon as he sensed and understood his MD - we all realized that our MDs are just toys compared to Safar. However, the fact that it is difficult to understand even for 5 trips is a fact.

Everyone took Minelab 705

And the next season, my two friends sold all their metal detectors, added money from the sale of coins and bought two Minelab 705 detectors at once - one new and one used. Well, looking at them, I also parted with my 34 grater, added money from the sale of coins, also sold non-ferrous scrap for 5,000 rubles (after each cop I brought from 200 grams to 2 kg of copper and brass, I put all this in a bucket, which for a couple of years, the cop became complete).

In general, all of our cheerful trio have now become owners of the best metal detector - Minelab 705. They got used to it quickly, it seems that the habit of all Minelabs has affected. The only thing was that polyphony was embarrassing, but, as it turned out, the signals with it are much clearer than with the three tonalities of simple models.

In the photo - the nephew tries himself as a digger:

Be sure to use polyphony in the settings, with it the signals give out “new colors” or something, there are a lot of facets of sound that sometimes have a decisive effect - the signal decides to dig and get something cool and interesting. Such was the discovery of the fold, which was deep and honked, I don’t understand how, but there was something in the sound that made me dig and pick up an interesting find.

Frequent questions of diggers:

Is there a difference between 505 and 705 Minelab?

Our answer is that there is another one, we strongly advise against taking the 505 if you are thinking of doing treasure hunting in the future. Although the devices are very similar, the 505 obviously loses in terms of finds / search characteristics, and those who say that they have the same "brains" - let them check their brains first. Therefore, we advise you - immediately save up for the 705 model, we checked this on our own experience, there are more finds with it.

Who is cooler - Minelab 705 or Minelab "Safari"?

Our answer - first of all, it depends on the operator, at first we did Safari. But when its operator understood the device, it became clear to all of us that the 28-frequency unit is in any way cooler than the flagship of the X-Terra series. a lot of times they checked the signal with both MDs at once, and when 705 gave hell knows what, “Safari” clearly said that there was a coin under the coil. And he was right. However, once again, we draw your attention - it may well turn out that you "morally" will not live to the moment when you fully understand Safari and leave the cop. But if you go all the way and are focused on results and good finds, the 28-frequency unit will definitely be cooler than the 705 Minelab. after all, there will be a more abrupt discriminator and many signals in which we are not sure, Safari will clearly say what is under the coil. Checked by us more than once or twice. So it's a cool machine, but it takes time to understand it.

What is cooler - Minelab 305 or ICQ 250?

We also dug with ICQ, somehow we met other diggers on the field, they were all with ICQ, and we were with Minelabs. So we decided to test and compare. What can I say? We got tired of digging iron, rusty generally gives into a flower bed, and if with graters we could smoke that it is “rusty” iron, and not ferrous metal thanks to a depth gauge (iron that gives off into non-ferrous metal always shows that the find is on the surface). ICQ, we could not figure out how to distinguish rusty iron, beating into a coin signal. Of course, when coins came across, ICQ 250 was not mistaken. our verdict - if you want to "dig" but save money on a metal detector - feel free to take ICQ 250, it solidly "fires" coins, but it is difficult to distinguish other non-ferrous metals and rust. You will find coins, but you will accumulate enough. In our opinion, with Minelab 305 there are more chances to find coins and you spend less effort, very often you don’t need to dig anything, while you have to dig with ICQ. These are our conclusions after 3 hours of detecting with ICQ.

Why is Minelab 705 cooler than others?

Price - for the money, this is the most understandable device for a beginner. There are, of course, all sorts of AKA Signums, Deuss, which are also powerful, but oh, how difficult it is to understand them and it takes time, Deus, by the way, is also 12k more expensive. And since we started with Minelabs, we decided to continue this tradition.

Depth of detection - by eye it really hits deeper than 505, although many say that 505 and 705 are the same devices, with the exception of additional options. However, I can assure you that it is not. As soon as they started digging from 705, the finds simply flooded many times more, the most important thing is that they began to find more small coins, it’s real — pennies of the USSR, scales — we didn’t find them before, but now — there are finds, and moreover, quite a lot.

Minelab 705 better cuts coins from iron, the most important thing here is to listen carefully, so if possible, dig with headphones. It’s best when you leave with a company, otherwise when you are in the “ears”, then they can give you a kick in the head from behind.

This MD is better at smelling coins on the edge, at least it seemed to us, and we have had detecting experience since 2007 - count already 7 years. Over the years, many coins have been found and only a couple of small hoards.

We do not use additional options such as “geological exploration”, we adjust the device to the ground manually and sometimes, when there is a lot of broken or iron around, we set the automatic setting. And still we don't leave without finds. And for 3 years, the cops with this MD have learned to understand it so much that 8 out of 10 you guess what is under the coil.

In the photo - "digging grounds":

Which coils are best to use and how they performed in our tests

My comrades took one low-frequency coil for themselves, but you need to somehow use more frequencies in the search)) Now one of them runs at a frequency of 18.75, and the second at a standard 7.5 kHz. There is not much difference in depth, but the fact that the low-frequency coil sees small targets and coins on the edge is better is a fact. We repeatedly checked the same target with two different coils - the low frequency actually sees better all the coins that lie at a depth of up to 20 cm. If it is deeper than 25 cm, then it starts to lose the standard 7.5 kHz. Therefore, we search with a low frequency on plowed fields, and with an ordinary coil - when we are exploring a new place, village or tract.

As for me, I am completely satisfied with 705 Minelabych, with it I have more finds many times over, and if it used to happen that I left a cop without finds at all, now this does not happen, a couple of coins even on a knocked out place can be found. The device is very simple and clear, it does not take much time to study, understand. I arrived at the place, set up the MD and started waving the “stick”. Everything is clear and understandable, if a coin gets under the coil, you will dig it out one hundred percent. For my money, this is the best metal detector for me, I strongly recommend skipping all the initial models and immediately taking the 705 - thanks to this tactic, there will be a lot of finds at once, and there will be no passes at all. And during the search season, you can repeatedly recapture the cost of a metal detector. Believe me))
